The Gentle Face of Love
Music by Ron KlusmeierWords by Walter Farquharson
Tune Name: PARKSVILLE

Lyrics as Poetry
The gentle face of love is shown
in smiles and hugs and prayers.
We’re wrapped in love that is of God
through tears and laughter shared.
When friends are gathered in this place,
Christ-spirit lives and grows.
The strength and healing trusted here
through each to other flows.
The joy of God’s love now enfolds
to claim for life our days.
No power exists to break this bond.
No pain can silence praise.
God, hold in love, in hope, in trust
the moments of our lives
until your new and promised day
in each, for all, shall rise.

Comments About Song
From Ron: Many of the Klusmeier-Farquharson hymns and songs were created while together at the United Church in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan during one of my frequent visits. However, geographical distances between our respective homes usually required long-distance collaboration.
In 2007 Walter and Joan visited us in Parksville, BC where I served as Minister of Music at Knox United Church. There was a palpable sense of faith-based community at Knox which touched Walter deeply. On Saturday, he wrote this inspired text following a workshop we led together. On Saturday night I composed the melody. The next day our ever-adventurous choir sang it as a fitting close to Walter’s sermon. What a thrill it was to create a hymn together in the same space and then use it just hours later in worship which we co-led with my colleague Rev. Foster Freed!
Of course, the Tune Name had to be: PARKSVILLE
