The Daughter of Jairus

Original Dutch Text by Willem Barnard; English Translation by Fred Kaan

Music by Ron Klusmeier

Tune Name: COMOX

Lyrics as Poetry

God’s word throughout the ages
has been the source of life,
and still it raises people
out of their tomb of grief.

The house was full of sadness;
a little girl had died.
Her father ran to Jesus
and like a man he cried.

He pleaded for his daughter
before the Son of man:
“Lay your hand upon her,
and she will live again.”

The house was full of mourners,
the street was dark with gloom,
when Jesus came and entered
the stillness of her room.

He touched her with his speaking
and took her by the hand;
he gave the girl her Easter
and helped her live and stand.

He gave the mourners laughter;
the girl another chance.
He stopped the sad procession
by leading death a dance.

Your church is like a daughter
who oversleeps in death.
Touch her with your Spirit,
and bring her back to life.
