Presentation Suggestions
If using “Light of Christ” as a repetitive meditation, consider playing the piece twice through as an introduction. The first time could be with an unaccompanied ‘C’ instrument such as a flute, violin, or oboe playing the melody. Accompaniment from either keyboard or guitar could be added on the second time. Both times, the ‘C’ instruments should remain in the concert range and play gently. 8va ranges could be added once the singing is established.
Regardless of the introduction selected and, whether it is led by a soloist, choir or other group, the leadership voice(s) should sing the melody in unison the first time through. By using some of the various harmony configurations provided here, it is possible to offer this brief song with considerable variety.
Another possible use for the song is to insert it as one-time-through versions between scripture readings, prayer sections or other spoken words. Depending on the setting and providing all participants are comfortable with the idea, soft instrumental versions could be played during the spoken elements.
“Light of Christ” could also serve as a choral and/or congregational sending out or blessing. If resources permit, a choir could offer it as an SATB or SAB a cappella blessing.
