Good Is the Flesh
Music by Ron KlusmeierWords by Brian Wren
Tune Name: CAMROSE

Lyrics as Poetry
Good is the flesh that the Word has become,
good is the birthing, the milk in the breast,
good is the feeding, caressing and rest,
good is the body for knowing the world,
Good is the flesh that the Word has become.Good is the body for knowing the world,
sensing the sunlight, the tug of the ground,
feeling, perceiving, within and around,
good is the body, from cradle to grave,
Good is the flesh that the Word has become.Good is the body, from cradle to grave,
growing and ageing, arousing, impaired,
happy in clothing, or lovingly bared,
good is the pleasure of God in our flesh,
Good is the flesh that the Word has become.Good is the pleasure of God in our flesh,
longing in all, as in Jesus, to dwell,
glad of embracing, and tasting, and smell,
good is the body, for good and for God,
Good is the flesh that the Word has become.

Comments About Song
BRIAN WREN
from his book “Piece Together Praise” (p 24):
“August 1986, revised 1987, inspired by James Nelson’s book, ‘Between Two Gardens’ (The Pilgrim Press, 1983). An ancient mis-diagnosis of the human condition (Manichaeism) sees sexuality and the body as unclean and disgusting. Manichaeism is still with us, in the anger and disgust expressed in church conflicts about sexuality, and the awkwardness still felt by many when talking about sex and bodily life in church settings, such as public worship. The hymn celebrates the logical consequences of believing that the Word became FLESH, and that God loves matter and affirms it as good. God’s embodied human life in Jesus (incarnation) is seen, not as distancing God-in-Christ from everyone else, but as the beginning of divine indwelling in us all.”
