Dear Loving God
Mother, Brother, Sister, Father: four relational windows into Oneness
Music by Ron KlusmeierWords by Brian Wren
Tune Name: GRANDE PRAIRIE
Lyrics as Poetry
Dear Mother God,
you held me at my birth.
You sang my name,
were glad to see my face.
You are my sky, my shining sun,
and in your love there’s always room
to be, and grow, yet find a home,
a settled place.
Dear Brother God,
in Christ your love rings true.
The mighty, high
and haughty lose their sway.
Your service, free from servitude,
draws out a love that, strong to give,
can show and tell inspire and live
a better way.
Dear Sister God,
you give the listening love
(when people meet,
and trust, as sharing grows)
that murmurs yes, and yes again,
as sighs and hurts too deep for words
are hailed, embraced, accepted, heard,
and courage flows.
Dear Father God,
with strong and gentle hands
you plant, and prune,
and tend the living earth.
Your will be done, your freedom come,
till none exploit, or win, or lose,
but cherish life, and spread the news
of second birth.

Comments About Song
BRIAN WREN
from his book “Piece Together Praise” (p 165):
“March 1980. Originally ‘Dear Sister God’, written for a Wives’ Club Anniversary at Hockley and Hawkwell United Reformed Church, Essex, England, where I was minister from 1965 to 1970. The metaphors (Mother, Brother, Sister and Father) are poetry, not creed: they are not a ‘quaternity’ replacing the Trinity, but four relational windows into the trinitarian Oneness of the divine.”
