We Gather Now, Love’s People
Music by Henry Thomas Smart (1813-1879)Words by Walter Farquharson
Tune Name: DAY OF REST or LANCASHIRE
Lyrics as Poetry
We gather now, Love’s people,
as learners of the Way;
the God we’ve come to worship
announces love’s New Day.
This love is kind and gentle,
not arrogant or rude.
This love seeks healing justice
and faith by action proved.
The call to be disciples
comes urging us today;
it rises fresh amongst us
in word, in work, in play.
We’ll know each other gladly
as children of God’s choice;
we’ll treasure God’s creation;
as one, with all, rejoice.
With trust and hope we labour;
with love, these gifts survive.
Through death to resurrection
this earth comes new, alive.
This road of faith we journey —
we never walk alone –
companions past and present,
Love’s people, all, God’s own.
