“Touch the Earth Lightly” (#24):
“Created from the gift of a tune sent to me by Jillian Bray. The tune was named for Jillian’s great-grandmother, and daughter of a chief on Niue, a tiny Pacific island. The feeling of the tune made me think of the gentleness of those people and the intimacy of love shared within family and friends.”
NOTE FROM RON: Jillian, a New Zealander who died in 2018, was a very close friend of Shirley’s. They collaborated on many hymns and songs. While visiting Shirley and John Murray in 2014, I was privileged to meet Jillian who came to visit Christina and me in Shirley & John’s home one afternoon. I was moved by her gentle manner, caring spirit, deep faith, and her extraordinary skills in music and composition.
