I Will Listen

"The song calls one to quieten oneself
and allow God to speak and act."

Tune Name: LISTEN

Lyrics as Poetry

I will listen to you, Lord,
and hear you.
I will listen to your voice,
you are calling;
I will listen- you are speaking
deep within me.
I will listen for your word,
you are calling me.

Your salvation is near to all who love you.
Your salvation is near at hand,
that your glory might dwell
in our hearts today,
that your glory might dwell in our land,
in our land.

I will listen to you, Lord,
and hear you.
I will listen to your voice,
you are calling;
I will listen- you are speaking
deep within me.
I will listen for your word,
you are calling me.

Love and kindness embrace one another,
Justice and peace meet as one.
Truth shall rise from the earth
and ascend into heaven,
and your mercy take our hearts for her home,
for her home.

I will listen to you, Lord,
and hear you.
I will listen to your voice,
you are calling;
I will listen- you are speaking
deep within me.
I will listen for your word,
you are calling me.

Lord, you give us your blessing.
You cause our harvest to increase;
Justice is the plough
that clears the way before you,
and beneath us your pathway shall be peace,
it shall be peace.

I will listen to you, Lord,
and hear you.
I will listen to your voice,
you are calling;
I will listen- you are speaking
deep within me.
I will listen for your word,
you are calling me.

Comments About Song

by Author & Composer
GORDON LIGHT

The song is based on Psalm 85, especially verses 8-13. In earlier verses of the psalm, there is lament… a cry for God to bring restoration and steadfast love to the people, and to the earth itself. But having cried out, the psalmist realizes that one has to be still, trusting and open: “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace…”

My world and my own soul are often so noisy – the song calls one to quieten oneself and allow God to speak and act.
